Itinerary

Day 1: Depart for Lisbon

Make your way to your local airport, where you will board your overnight flight(s). Your meals will be served on board.

Day 2: Arrive in Lisbon

Upon landing at Lisbon Airport, head to baggage claim and collect your luggage. Proceed to the arrival hall, where you will be greeted by your tour guide and/or driver. Board the bus and begin a panoramic sightseeing tour of Lisbon. We will stop at St. Jerome’s Monastery, built to give thanks to the Virgin Mary for guiding Vasco da Gama on his voyage that linked Europe and Asia. Continue to drive by the Belem Quarter, which contains the iconic entryway to the Lisbon harbor, the Belem Tower. This important historic structure has many beautiful sculptures, such as depictions of St. Vincent and Our Lady of Safe Homecoming. The next stop is St. Anthony’s Church, built upon the site of Saint’s birth; it is here that we will celebrate Mass. Although the patron Saint of lost things is known as St. Anthony of Padua (Italy), he was born in Lisbon, Portugal. This Church is built upon St. Anthony’s birth site and is also where Saint John Paul II visited in 1982. After Mass, we will drive to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Lisbon - Santarem - Fatima

Today, we will travel north to the old city of Santarem. We will attend Mass at the Church of St. Stephen, which holds a 13th-century Eucharistic Miracle. Continue to Fatima and visit the Hamlet of Aljustrel, the home of the three shepherd children. Visit the Parish Church and Fatima Parish Cemetery. Continue to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Fatima

Today will be a memorable experience as you pray and meditate upon one of Our Blessed Mother’s apparition sites. Our Lady appeared to three shepherd children: Lucia (age 10), Jacinta (age 7), and Francisco (age 9). These apparitions occurred monthly from May until October of 1917. Historically, as the entire world was in turmoil, Our Lady’s most prominent message was to pray for world peace. The destruction of the world at that point in history was also mentioned by Our Lady, particularly in her second secret to the children. Our profoundly reflective day begins with a visit to the Little Chapel of the Apparitions. This simple yet modern chapel is where the Virgin Mary first appeared on May 13, 1917. Next, you will see the stunning neoclassical church, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary. This Sacred space contains the tombs of Blessed Francisco, Blessed Jacinta, and Sister Lucia. View the monument that commemorates the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the square. In honor of Our Lady’s requests to pray the Rosary, the Basilica also features fifteen altars each dedicated to a mystery of the Rosary. Visit the Museum with the “Fatima: Light and Peace” exhibition. Continue with a visit to the Holy Trinity Basilica. After free time for lunch, we will experience Christ’s unconditional love by participating in the Stations of the Cross along the Via Sacra. The “Sacred Way” marks the path taken by the shepherd children of Fatima to their first apparition with Our Lady. It is composed of fifteen small chapels commemorating the Passion of Our Lord. The fifteenth station, the Resurrection, can be found close to the Chapel of Calvary, dedicated to St. Stephen, King of Hungary. Ending the day with a visit to Valinhos, the site of Our Lady’s August 1917 apparition and the first and third apparition of the Angel. Your night will conclude with private devotions and a candlelight procession, as requested by Our Lady in 1917. Enjoy dinner and a comfortable night’s rest in Fatima.

Day 5: Fatima – Porto – Santiago de Compostela

After breakfast, we will board the motor coach and drive to Porto (Oporto). Porto is a historic city renowned for its production of Port, which is still stored and matured in the vast cellars that line the banks of the Douro River. After a city tour of Porto and celebrating Mass, enjoy some free time for lunch before we continue to the great city of Santiago de Compostela for dinner and a restful overnight.

Day 6: Santiago de Compostela

This morning, you will walk a few miles of El Camino. Immerse yourselves in the fragrant eucalyptus groves and experience the breathtaking scenery. Later this morning, attend the International Pilgrim Mass at the Cathedral of St. James. After Mass, there will be free time for lunch. In the afternoon, we will visit the Cathedral of Santiago. This Cathedral is one of the finest architectural examples in Europe as it encompasses Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque styles. The Cathedral contains numerous valuable pieces of art. Upon entering the Cathedral, pilgrims traditionally hug the dazzling statue of St. James. You will then descend into the crypt where the Patron Saint of Pilgrims’ relics are kept. After that, you will enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city. Some stops on your tour include Obradoiro Square, Fonseca Palace, Gemirez Palace, Franco Street, and much more. Return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7: Santiago De Compostela - Our Lady of Covadonga Sanctuary – San Sebastian de Garabandal

After breakfast, depart for Covadonga and visit the Covadonga Sanctuary. This Shrine gained popularity following the Battle of Covadonga in 722 when the Moors tried to invade Spain. A statue of the Virgin Mary, secretly hidden in one of the caves, was believed to have faithfully supported the Christian victory. Covadonga is where the re-conquest began under King Pelayo, whose remains are buried in the cave alongside Our Lady of Covadonga. The Basilica and Cave are places of worship and Pilgrimage for the people of Asturias. The Basilica was built in the neo-Romanesque style, featuring two high towers that flank the main entrance. Inside, there are works of great value, such as a canvas by Madrazo. The statue of King Pelayo is located in the square adjacent to the Basilica. The statue of Our Lady of Covadonga, the tomb of King Pelayo, and the tomb of King Alfonso I are located in the Holy Cave, which is accessible via a large staircase. A spring flows out of the cave, and below this, there is a fountain with seven spouts. On the altar, a gold panel represents the Battle of Covadonga. Continue through the scenic countryside of Cantabria, Spain. Enjoy the lush green mountains before arriving at the hamlet of Garabandal. Check into your hotel for dinner and an overnight.

Day 8: San Sebastian de Garabandal - Santo Toribio de Liebana Monastery - San Sebastian de Garabandal

After breakfast, start your day visiting Garabandal. Little has changed in this rural town since June 18, 1961, when four children had an apparition of an Angel. The angel said he had been sent to prepare the children for a visit from the Blessed Virgin. From July 2, 1961, until November 13, 1965, the Blessed Virgin visited the children and spoke to them about future events. The children reported a promised future miracle at the grove of pine trees on a bluff overlooking the village of Garabandal. It will be on the feast day of a little-known martyr of the Eucharist and coincide with an event in the Church. In the afternoon, travel to Santo Toribio de Liebana Monastery. The Monastery was founded before the 6th Century. According to tradition, the Monastery venerates the largest piece of the Lignum Crucis discovered in Jerusalem by Saint Helena of Constantinople. It was brought from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre by Saint Turibius of Astorga. The left arm of the True Cross is kept on a gilded silver reliquary. The Monastery was initially dedicated to St. Martin of Tours, but its name was changed in the 12th Century. On April 16, 1961, the Franciscan friars, custodians of the Holy Places, were entrusted with the safekeeping of the relic and with promoting devotion to the Holy Cross. Return to Garabandal for dinner and an overnight.

Day 9: San Sebastian de Garabandal – Loyola – Lourdes

Following breakfast, transfer from Garabandal to Loyola to visit the birthplace of St. Ignatius, founder of the Jesuit Order. St. Ignatius dedicated himself to becoming a soldier of the Christian faith, and as a result of many tribulations, he wrote the ever-famous Spiritual Exercises. In Loyola, you will find the 17th-century Basilica dedicated to this remarkable Saint. The Basilica is part of a series of buildings that surround the “Holy House,” the birthplace of St. Ignatius. You will also have the opportunity to pray in the room where St. Ignatius began his conversion. After meditating on the life of the founder of the Jesuit Order, enjoy free time for lunch and board the bus for the next destination. We will continue to Lourdes with a spectacular view of the Pyrenees Mountains. Upon arrival in Lourdes, you will check in to your hotel and enjoy a splendid dinner, followed by a peaceful overnight stay.

Day 10: Lourdes

During your time in Lourdes, you will pray and meditate at the site of Our Lady’s apparitions. Our Lady first appeared to Bernadette in 1858 and announced herself as “The Immaculate Conception” near the Grotto of Massabielle. During the first two apparitions, little Bernadette prayed the Rosary with Our Lady and left without exchanging words. During the following apparitions, Our Lady emphasized God’s love for us and the necessity of performing acts of penance for sinners. Attend Mass at the Grotto, where Our Lady appeared to Bernadette. Watch a video presentation that explains the story of Lourdes. Wash your hands, wash your face, and drink the water of the miraculous spring. Finish with a short prayer: “Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us. St. Bernadette, pray for us. O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.” Experience Christ’s unconditional love as you meditate upon the life-size Stations of the Cross that overlook the Grotto of Massabielle. In Lourdes, you will walk in and meditate upon the footsteps of St. Bernadette. Your group will have the opportunity to see Boly Mill, the birthplace of St. Bernadette, and the “Cachot,” an abandoned prison where Bernadette’s impoverished family lived. Following dinner, you can attend the candlelight procession and pray the Rosary before a restful overnight.

Day 11: Lourdes – Montserrat

After breakfast, we will depart for Montserrat, home to the miraculous Black Madonna. We will visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Montserrat, located on a rugged mountainside. According to Catholic tradition, St. Luke is said to have carved the statue of the Black Madonna around 50 A.D. and brought it to Spain. It was hidden from the Moors for a time and later rediscovered by shepherds. In 880 A.D., the shepherds and the Bishop of Manresa were drawn to a grotto by a bright light and heavenly music. Upon discovering the statue of the Black Madonna in the grotto, the Bishop of Manresa suggested that it be moved to Manresa. However, the statue was so heavy it could not be lifted. As a result, the Virgin remained in Montserrat and continued to be venerated there for centuries. As the years progressed, several chapels were built on the site, and in the eleventh century, the Abbot-Bishop Oliba founded a monastery on Montserrat next to one of these chapels. Dinner and overnight.

Day 12: Montserrat – Manresa – Barcelona

Following breakfast, we will travel to Manresa for a visit to the Sanctuary of Saint Ignatius of Loyola and the Holy Cave where St. Ignatius lived. Continue to Barcelona. Enjoy free time this afternoon before dinner and overnight.

Day 13: Barcelona

This morning, your day will begin with breakfast and a sightseeing tour of Barcelona! Enjoy the stunning panoramic views of the Port of Barcelona, Montjuic, Plaza de España, and Plaza de Catalunya. The Port was created 2,000 years ago in the coastal area to protect and provide access for ships and goods. Currently, it is home to numerous walking regions, businesses, cultural and sporting events. Plaza de España is right outside the center of town and was formerly known for its old bull-fighting ring. Presently, the Plaza is renowned for containing the Museum of Catalan Art, situated on the side of Montjuic. Plaza de Catalunya is located in the heart of Barcelona and is famous for its fountains and statues. Your day of touring will continue with a guided walk through the Gothic Quarter, which contains remains from an ancient Roman village, including the Cathedral of Barcelona. We will continue to the Eixample quarter to visit Antoni Gaudi’s stunning, unfinished Roman Catholic Basilica, La Sagrada Familia. Afternoon at leisure. Enjoy dinner followed by an overnight stay.

Day 14: Barcelona - Depart for the Netherlands

Your last day in Spain will begin with breakfast at your hotel, followed by a transfer to Barcelona airport for your flight to Amsterdam. Upon landing in Amsterdam, head to the baggage claim area and collect your luggage. Proceed to the arrival hall, where you will be greeted by your tour guide and/or driver. Transfer to your hotel. This afternoon, we will visit the Chapel of Our Lady of All Nations, one of the Virgin Mary’s apparition sites. From 1945 until 1959, Our Lady appeared to Ida Peerdeman with a continuous message of love, repentance, and a prayer for nations. Following Mass, we will visit the site of a Eucharistic Miracle. In 1345, as a result of a man’s illness, a Sacred Host was found preserved in his house even though it was moved numerous times and survived a fire that left the city in ruins. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight in Amsterdam.

Day 15: Amsterdam – Zaanse Schans – Amsterdam

Following breakfast, we will celebrate Mass. After Mass, enjoy a guided tour of Amsterdam. Experience its seventeenth-century historical and picturesque atmosphere amidst its canals and squares. Additionally, you will experience a glimpse of the many cultural highlights Amsterdam has to offer, such as the Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank’s House, Rembrandt House, and the Rijksmuseum. After lunch, we will proceed to the Zaanse Schans, a unique piece of Dutch history located on the river Zaan. It is a residential area where the 18th and 19th centuries come alive. Stroll past the bakery museum and enjoy the smell of fresh cookies. See where clogs are made, the cheese factory, the various windmills, and much more. The Zaanse Schans is a unique part of the Netherlands, featuring wooden houses, mills, barns, and workshops. Return to Amsterdam for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 16: Amsterdam – Utrecht – Ghent - Bruges

After breakfast, we will depart for Utrecht. Utrecht is one of the Netherlands’ principal political, economic, and cultural centers. We will visit Katherine’s Convent Museum (Catharijne convent), located in the former hospice of the Order of St. John. This museum tells the history of Christianity in the Netherlands. It also holds an extensive collection of medieval art treasures. You will have free time for lunch before boarding the motor coach for your transfer to Ghent, Belgium, home to the famous painting “Adoration of the Mystic Lamb.” This large and complex altarpiece was painted by Jan and Hubert Van Eyck in 1432. It is currently housed in St. Bavo Cathedral. We will celebrate Mass at St. Bavo Cathedral. After Mass, continue to Bruges. The Zeebrugge Port in Bruges is a significant hub for European trade. Dinner and overnight.

Day 17: Bruges

Following breakfast, visit the Church of Our Lady for Mass. You will inevitably notice the preserved culture of the Middle Ages that remains. View the magnificent marble statue of the Madonna and Child, sculpted by Michelangelo. Next, we visit the Holy Savior’s Cathedral in Bruges. Continue with a visit to the Basilica of the Holy Blood. This Basilica famously holds a venerated relic of Christ’s blood, collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from Jerusalem. Modeled on the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, it has a replica of Christ’s tomb. This afternoon, you will have free time to enjoy lunch and a stroll in this enchanting city. Return to your hotel on time to enjoy a delicious meal and a restful overnight.

Day 18: Bruges – Dinant - Beauraing - Banneux - Aachen

Following breakfast, you will board the motor coach to head to Beaurin. We will make a stop in the charming town of Dinant to have lunch on your own. Visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Beauraing, also known as the Virgin of the Golden Heart. In 1932, the Blessed Mother appeared to a group of young children thirty-three times. The children described her as being dressed in white with a golden crown on her head and golden hair. Our Lady came to these children during the Great Depression and advised them to sacrifice themselves to her. Continue to Banneux – Notre Dame, also known as the Lourdes of Belgium. Upon arrival, you will visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Banneux. In 1933, the Blessed Mother appeared to twelve-year-old Mariette Boco as the “Virgin of the Poor”. Our Lady appeared to little Mariette multiple times and said she had come to relieve the suffering of the ill and the conflicts of all nations. Continue to Aachen for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 19: Aachen - Cologne - Aachen

Today, you will enjoy a short sightseeing tour of the village of Aachen! We will attend Mass at the Aachen Cathedral, a Gothic Marian Shrine. The Church is the oldest in Germany and contains numerous treasures, including Jesus’ swaddling clothes, the Lord’s loincloth, the Blessed Virgin’s cloak, and the cloth used to cover St. John the Baptist’s head. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to venerate the miraculous fourteenth-century statue of the Blessed Virgin. Later, you will depart for Cologne, where you will enjoy another sightseeing tour! Cologne was initially founded and established by the Romans in 50 A.D. When this city received relics of the Three Magi in 1194, it gained importance as a pilgrimage center. While in this city, you will have the opportunity to visit the magnificent Gothic Cathedral, “the Kolner Dom” that houses the relics. Following this visit, you will learn about the city’s two thousand years of history. In the Middle Ages, the city of Cologne served as one of the major trade routes between Eastern and Western Europe. Return to Aachen for a wonderful meal and overnight.

Trier is known for its well-preserved Roman and medieval buildings, all of which you will visit during your time in this ancient city. The Porta Nigra is the only one of four Roman gates that still stands and was formally the home to a hermit monk named Simeon. Additionally, the Roman amphitheater and baths were places of relaxation for the ancient monks. Lastly, the style and size of the Constantine Basilica (Aula Palatina) truly exemplify the strength and power that the Roman Emperor had in ancient times. We will celebrate Mass at the Trier Cathedral, followed by free time for lunch. Continue with a visit to Trier Cathedral. This Cathedral contains a remarkable collection of artwork and is home to the Holy Robe that Our Lord Jesus Christ wore during the Crucifixion. Like the Shroud of Turin, the robe is very fragile and is only displayed every 10 – 15 years. Lastly, visit the Liebfrauenkirche, one of the first Gothic churches in Germany. Today, we will start with a guided tour of Lucerne. This central Switzerland city is known for its miraculous views of Mt. Pilatus and Rigi in the Swiss Alps. About your trip

About the Fatima

The Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima is one of most famous Marian shrines in the world. 4 million Pilgrims visit Fatima each year! Many are drawn by the apparitions of the Virgin Mary to the three local shepherd children, in 1917. The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to the shepherd children on the 13th day of six consecutive months in 1917, starting on May 13th until October 13th. The events at Fatima gained fame due to their elements of prophecy and eschatology, particularly with regard to possible world war and the conversion of Russia.

About Santiago de Compostela:

The history of El Camino, the Way of St. James or St. James’ Way, often known by its Spanish name, el Camino de Santiago, is the pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where legend has it that the remains of the apostle, Saint James the Great, are buried. The Way of St. James has existed for over a thousand years. It was one of the most important Christian pilgrimages during medieval times. It was considered one of three pilgrimages on which a plenary indulgence could be earned; the others are the Via Francigena to Rome and the pilgrimageto Jerusalem. Legend holds that St. James’s remains were carried by boat from Jerusalem to northern Spain, where they were buried on the site that is now the city of Santiago de Compostela. There are some, however, who claim that the bodily remains at Santiago belong to Priscillian, the fourth-century Galician leader of an ascetic Christian sect, Priscillianism, who was one of the first Christian heretics to be executed.

About Lourdes:

She came for you and for everyone of us! 6 million pilgrims come to Lourdes each year and 10,000 visit this site daily. At the foot of the Pyrenees mountains in southwestern France, nestled between the spectacular mountain river, Gave de Pau, is Lourdes, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the World. Lourdes is the birthplace of St Bernadette to whom Our Lady appeared in 1858 near the Grotto of Massabielle. Our pilgrimage and tour of Lourdes includes visits to the sanctuary and the Basilica of St Pius X, the world’s largest underground Church. Drink from the spring that the Virgin directed Bernadette to locate at the base of the Grotto, which has flowed uninterrupted since 1858. Wash yourself in the baths where hundreds of miraculous cures have taken place. Contemplate Christ’s Passion as you pray the unique three-dimensional Stations of the Cross. Attend the blessing of the sick, and participate in nightly candlelight processions requested by Our Lady. Daily Mass, and Mass at the Grotto on Sunday will be followed by a video presentation telling the miraculous story of Lourdes. Visit Lourdes and experience a spiritual journey from which many have claimed healing and conversion.
