Itinerary
Day 1 | Wednesday, September 3: Depart your hometown for Rome, Italy
Make your way to your local airport, where you will board your overnight flight(s). Your meals will be served on board.
Day 2 | Thursday, September 4: Arrive at Rome Airport
Welcome to Italy and the beginning of what is to be the most memorable pilgrimage of your life. Upon arriving in Rome airport, make your way to the baggage claim area and collect your luggage. Proceed to the Arrivals Hall, where you will be greeted by your guide and driver, who will transfer you to your hotel. Meet your fellow pilgrims and then participate in the celebration of Holy Mass. Conclude the day with welcome dinner and a restful overnight. (B,D)
Day 3 | Friday, September 5: Rome – Basilica of St. John the Lateran – Holy Stairs – Basilica of St. Mary Major - St. Peter's Basilica - Vatican Museum
This morning, we will make our way to the oldest of the four major Basilicas in Rome, and the home to the relics of Peter and Paul, the Basilica of St. John the Lateran. Next, you will cross the street to visit the Holy Stairs. These Holy Stairs are the very steps leading up to the praetorium of Pontius Pilate in Jerusalem on which Jesus stepped on his way to trial during his Passion. The Stairs were brought to Rome by Saint Helena in the fourth century. Ascending these stairs on your knees, in memory of Christ’s agonizing Passion. Next, we will visit the Basilica of St. Mary Major. This Church, dedicated to Our Blessed Mother, St. Mary Major reigns as the only Basilica that has kept its original structure and is an authentic jewel in the crown of Roman Churches. This Basilica contains a relic from the Manager of the Infant Jesus. After lunch we will head back to tour St. Peter’s Basilica, built on the site where St. Peter the Apostle was martyred. Here, you will have the opportunity to view Michelangelo’s Pieta sculpture. Continue to proceed to the Vatican Museums. At the world-renowned museum, you will see the most impressive of edifices, galleries, and awe-inspiring relics. Additionally, you will observe the Tapestry Gallery, Raphael Rooms, Sistine Chapel, and Michelangelo’s Masterpiece, the restored mural of the Last Judgment. The final stop on your Vatican tour is at the tomb of Saint John Paul II. Pray at the tombs of Pope Benedict XVI and St. John Paul II before returning to your hotel. Overnight in Rome. Dinner on your own. (B)
Day 4 | Saturday, September 6: Rome – Assisi (Full day Excursion)
This morning, you will ride through the beautiful Umbrian countryside to Assisi, the hometown of St. Francis and St. Clare. Tour of the Basilica of St. Francis, where you will see the tomb of St. Francis. Next you will visit the Santuario Della Spogliazione where Blessed Carlo Acutis’ tomb is, the first millennial to be declared Blessed. Continue tour by walking through this picturesque town, where St. Francis and St. Clare both followed God’s call to rebuild his church. Enjoy some free time – for additional prayer, shop and lunch. After lunch, board the bus, which will take you outside of the walls of Assisi, to the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. This Basilica is made up of two structures, both of which you will visit. The first structure is the “Porziuncola” and the second is the “Capella del Transito” which is the place where St. Francis died. Return to Rome for dinner and overnight. (B,D)
Day 5 | Sunday, September 7: Canonization of Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati
Mark your calendars! Witness history with 206 Tours on the momentous day Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati are declared a Saints! Make our way to St. Peters square to secure your prime viewing spot as the Square fills with international pilgrims. By 10:00 AM, the canonization ceremony unfolds, officiated by the Pope himself. Day 6 | Monday, September 8: Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls and Catacombs
After breakfast continue to Appian Way, one of the earliest roads built in ancient Rome to the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls and the Catacombs. Reminder of the day is free for prayer and reflection. Farewell dinner and overnight in Rome. (B,D)
Day 7 | Tuesday, September 9: Return Home
After an early breakfast and heartfelt farewells, your group will leave by motor coach and transfer to the Rome Fiumicino airport for return flights home and memories of a lifetime ! (B)
