Make your way to your local airport, where you will board your overnight flight(s). Your meals will be served on board.

Day 2 | Tuesday, September 15: Arrive in Lisbon

Upon landing at Lisbon Airport, head to baggage claim and collect your luggage. Proceed to the arrival hall, where you will be greeted by your tour guide and/or driver. Board the bus and begin a panoramic sightseeing tour of Lisbon. We will stop at St. Jerome’s Monastery, built to give thanks to the Virgin Mary for guiding Vasco da Gama on his voyage that linked Europe and Asia. Continue to drive by the Belem Quarter, which contains the iconic entryway to the Lisbon harbor, the Belem Tower. This important historic structure has many beautiful sculptures, such as depictions of St. Vincent and Our Lady of Safe Homecoming. The next stop is St. Anthony’s Church, built upon the site of Saint’s birth; it is here that we will celebrate Mass. Although the patron Saint of lost things is known as St. Anthony of Padua (Italy), he was born in Lisbon, Portugal. This Church is built upon St. Anthony’s birth site and is also where Saint John Paul II visited in 1982. After Mass, we will drive to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 | Wednesday, September 16: Lisbon - Sintra - Lisbon

Following breakfast, board the bus for visit to Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its fairytale palaces, lush gardens, and charming historic center. First stop will be Sanctuary and Palace of Peninha, a masterpiece of 19th-century Romanticism that crowns the town with vibrant colors and striking architecture. This small chapel perched high in the Sintra mountains, offers breathtaking views and a peaceful place for prayer and reflection. Continuing into the historic town, pilgrims can explore the Church of São Martinho, a 12th-century parish church with deep religious roots. The itinerary also includes a stop at the Convent of the Capuchos, a humble Franciscan monastery carved into the rock and forest, embodying the ideals of simplicity and devotion. Before returning to Lisbon, reflect on their day at the tranquil gardens surrounding the Quinta da Regaleira, whose Christian symbolism offers a contemplative close to this beautiful day. Return to Lisbon for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 | Thursday, September 17: Lisbon - Santarem – Fatima

Today, we will travel north to the old city of Santarem. We will attend Mass at the Church of St. Stephen, which holds a 13th-century Eucharistic Miracle. Continue to Fatima and visit the Hamlet of Aljustrel, the home of the three shepherd children. Visit the Parish Church and Fatima Parish Cemetery. Continue to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Days 5 & 6 | Friday & Saturday, September 18 & 19: In Fatima

Your stay in Fatima will be a memorable experience as you pray and meditate upon one of Our Blessed Mother’s apparition sites. Our Lady appeared to three shepherd children: Lucia (age 10), Jacinta (age 7), and Francisco (age 9). These apparitions occurred monthly from May until October of 1917. Historically, as the entire world was in turmoil, Our Lady’s most prominent message was to pray for world peace. The destruction of the world at that point in history was also mentioned by Our Lady, particularly in her second secret to the children. Our profoundly reflective day begins with a visit to the Little Chapel of the Apparitions. This simple yet modern chapel is where the Virgin Mary first appeared on May 13, 1917. Next, you will see the stunning neoclassical church, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary. This Sacred space contains the tombs of Saint Francisco, Saint Jacinta and Venerable Lucia. View the monument that commemorates the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the square. In honor of Our Lady’s requests to pray the Rosary, the Basilica also features fifteen altars each dedicated to a mystery of the Rosary. Visit the Museum with the “Fatima: Light and Peace” exhibition. Continue with a visit to the Holy Trinity Basilica. After free time for lunch, we will experience Christ’s unconditional love by participating in the Stations of the Cross along the Via Sacra. The “Sacred Way” marks the path taken by the shepherd children of Fatima to their first apparition with Our Lady. It is composed of fifteen small chapels commemorating the Passion of Our Lord. The fifteenth station, the Resurrection, can be found close to the Chapel of Calvary, dedicated to St. Stephen, King of Hungary. You will end the day with a visit to Valinhos, the site of Our Lady’s August 1917 apparition and the first and third apparition of the Angel.  Your nights will conclude with private devotions and a candlelight procession, as requested by Our Lady in 1917. Dinners and overnights in Fatima.

Day 7 | Sunday, September 20: Fatima – Coimbra – Braga – Santiago de Compostela

This morning, you will enjoy breakfast , followed with a transfer to Coimbra, once the medieval capital of Portugal. Here you will visit the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Nova, where the incorrupt body of Queen Saint Isabel of Portugal, known for her piety and miracles, rests in a silver and glass tomb. Time permitting, we will visit Old Cathedral of Coimbra (Sé Velha), a 12th-century Romanesque church that served as a center of Christian worship during the Reconquista. Nearby, the University of Coimbra, one of the oldest in Europe, preserves a strong Jesuit influence, with the beautiful Chapel of São Miguel showcasing sacred art and offering a quiet place for contemplation. Continue to Braga, a lively city, one of the oldest in the country. Visit the Shrine of Bom Jesus do Monte (“Good Jesus of the Mountain “) to celebrate Mass. In 1722 the Archbishop of Braga authorized the construction of a Sacred Way, for the faithful to walk the Stations of the Cross for penance and contemplation. End the day in Santiago de Compostela, where you will admire the magnificent Cathedral of Saint James, final resting place of the apostle. Dinner and overnight in Santiago de Compostela.

Day 8 | Monday, September 21: Santiago de Compostela

This morning, you will walk a few miles of El Camino. Immerse yourselves in the fragrant eucalyptus groves and experience the breathtaking scenery. Later this morning, attend the International Pilgrim Mass at the Cathedral of St. James. After Mass, there will be free time for lunch. In the afternoon, we will visit the Cathedral of Santiago. This Cathedral is one of the finest architectural examples in Europe as it encompasses Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque styles. The Cathedral contains numerous valuable pieces of art. Upon entering the Cathedral, pilgrims traditionally hug the dazzling statue of St. James. You will then descend into the crypt where the Patron Saint of Pilgrims’ relics are kept. After that, you will enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city. Some stops on your tour include Obradoiro Square, Fonseca Palace, Gemirez Palace, Franco Street, and much more. Return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 9 | Tuesday, September 22: Santiago De Compostela – Porto

After breakfast, we will board the motor coach and drive to Porto (Oporto). Porto is a historic city renowned for its production of Port, which is still stored and matured in the vast cellars that line the banks of the Douro River. Visit Sao Francisco Church with beautiful Gothic interior. Following Mass, we visit The Clerigos Church with iconic bell tower continue panoramic view of the Dom Luís Bridge, Church of Saint Ildefonso, a baroque style church with tile façade and the Maria Pia Bridge. After a city tour of Porto group enjoy farewell dinner and a restful overnight.

About your trip

About the Fatima

The Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima is one of most famous Marian shrines in the world. 4 million Pilgrims visit Fatima each year! Many are drawn by the apparitions of the Virgin Mary to the three local shepherd children, in 1917. The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to the shepherd children on the 13th day of six consecutive months in 1917, starting on May 13th until October 13th. The events at Fatima gained fame due to their elements of prophecy and eschatology, particularly with regard to possible world war and the conversion of Russia.

About Santiago de Compostela:

The history of El Camino, the Way of St. James or St. James’ Way, often known by its Spanish name, el Camino de Santiago, is the pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where legend has it that the remains of the apostle, Saint James the Great, are buried. The Way of St. James has existed for over a thousand years. It was one of the most important Christian pilgrimages during medieval times. It was considered one of three pilgrimages on which a plenary indulgence could be earned; the others are the Via Francigena to Rome and the pilgrimageto Jerusalem. Legend holds that St. James’s remains were carried by boat from Jerusalem to northern Spain, where they were buried on the site that is now the city of Santiago de Compostela. There are some, however, who claim that the bodily remains at Santiago belong to Priscillian, the fourth-century Galician leader of an ascetic Christian sect, Priscillianism, who was one of the first Christian heretics to be executed.

About Spain

Saint Teresa and Saint Ingatius both hailed from Spain. Saint Teresa of Ávila, also called Saint Teresa of Jesus, was a prominent Spanish mystic, Carmelite nun, and writer. Saint Ignatius of Loyola was a Spanish knight who became priest and found the Society of Jesus and became its first Superior General.
