St. Clare of Assisi Pilgrimage

The Story:

Saint Clare of Assisi is an Italian Saint well known for being one of the first to follow of St. Francis of Assisi, and for founding the Order of Poor Ladies in the Franciscan tradition of monastic religious life. This Order was the first ever to have been written by a woman and is now often referred to as the “Order of Saint Clare” or “Poor Clares”. At the age of 18, she heard St. Francis preach and asked him to help her live a life of prayer too, which led to more women joining what would become her Order. Her feast day is celebrated on August 11th. St. Clare was Canonized on August 15, 1255 just a few years after her death. Her relics reside in Assisi the crypt of the Basilica of Saint Clare (Basilica di Santa Chiara) where Pilgrims visit and venerate.
