Paray-le-Monial Pilgrimage

The Story:

Paray-le-Monial is home to the devotion of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. God chose St. Margaret Mary Alacoque to be the instrument that would lead the world back to Christ through devotion to his Sacred Heart. This devotion was meant to counter the cold and austere heresy of Jansenism that was preventing many French people from receiving the Eucharist and drawing closer to Christ. Jansenists were criticized by the Jesuits, who saw the errors in the emphasis on sin, depravity, and predestination.

Transportation: Paray-le-Monial is approximately a 2 hour drive northwest of Lyon (83 miles).It can be reached via the A6. Paray is also a 4 hour drive from Paris (230 miles). Train: there are several trains between Lyon and Paray-le-Monial each day. It is about a 2 hour ride. Bus: SNCF buses operate between the Lyon and Paray-le-Monial stations.
