Most people love to travel. Some are not sure where the journey will take them. They are not sure if the trip will be as fulfilling as the commercial promised it would be. Some go on the most deluxe cruise or to a rich and famous resort. Regardless where you go, if you are not going towards God, it leads you to emptiness. Even the most successful trips, careers, or families cannot give the significance, security, peace, and affirmation that the Author of glory and love can give. Very few of us will see all of our wildest dreams fulfilled in life. Therefore, it’s easy to live in the illusion that if you were more successful, wealthy, popular, skinny, beautiful, etc…then you’d finally be happy and at peace. This is just not true. The moment your striving for earthly things is reached and your happiness occurs, you will be left empty the next day, still feeling unsatisfied.
Everybody has to go somewhere. Everyone has to live for something. Whatever that something and somewhere is, it eventually becomes “lord of your life,” regardless if you think of it that way or not. Do not chase after the empty promises of this world. Jesus is the only Way to gain true joy. If you walk the path towards Him, He will fulfill you completely. If you fail Him, but repent and ask forgiveness, He will forgive you eternally. Whether you go around the corner to your parish church or to the Holy Land, it is our hope that your life’s pilgrimage leads to God, as He is the highest summum bonum (our ultimate good and life center).
