St Rita of Cascia Pilgrimage
The Story:
St. Rita of Cascia became an Italian nun after being widowed. Married at just 12 years old, she was a mother and was abused by her husband. After her husband was killed by a family member, she joined the Augustinian community of religious sisters. She is the Patron Saint of lost causes, abused wives, marital issues, and widows. She had a head wound that is portrayed as a partial stigmata. Her feast day is celebrated on May 22nd each year. Her body is incorrupt and enshrined in the Basilica of Santa Rita da Cascia. Built in 1931, the minor Basilica, in the town of Cascia in the Umbrian region of Italy, has an interior filled with notable frescoes.
