San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy Pilgrimage
Church of Santa Maria della Grazie:
This is the Church where St. Padre Pio spent most of his life. St. Pio has been called the most important Italian of the 20th century. He has inspired Popes and Pilgrims alike, which can be seen in the countless of statues that are dedicated to him all throughout Italy. Next to the Church is the entrance to the museum where you can view his cell, personal artifacts, his confessional where he spent countless hours, and the cross in front of which he received the stigmata.
The Padre Pio Pilgrimage Church:
Built in 2004, this Church has a much more modern feel than any other in San Giovanni Rotondo. It was built in order to accommodate the number of people who were visiting each year, which continued to grow with each passing year. At the present time, it can seat 6,500 pilgrims inside – with another 30,000 outside. It currently hosts the incorrupt body of St. Pio.
