Celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe

“Am I not here, who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Am I not the source of your joy? Are you not in the hollow of my mantle, in the crossing of my arms?” – Our Lady of Guadalupe to St. Juan Diego

For centuries, the apparitions in 1531 of Our Lady of Guadalupe to St. Juan Diego have had a profound impact on the world. Every year, millions of pilgrims journey to the Basilica in Mexico where St. Juan Diego’s tilma is on display bearing the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Hearts are converted, prayers are answered, and hope is restored as men and women come to their Heavenly Mother with their needs.

206 Tours has been blessed to bring thousands of pilgrims to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe over the years, and it continues to be one of our most popular pilgrimages (www.206tours.com/tour206). Currently, we have several groups onsite in Mexico to celebrate this feast day including Women of Grace’s 20th Anniversary pilgrimage led by Johnnette B. Williams! It is truly a special blessing to visit the Shrine and see the miraculous tilma on Our Lady’s feast day.

Our Lady of Guadalupe wants to journey with us on this pilgrimage of life. In her words to St. Juan Diego, she addresses him as a loving mother would speak to her child. We are invited to this same childlike relationship with our loving Heavenly Queen, who prays and intercedes for us.

Through simplicity of heart and obedience to Our Lady’s request, St. Juan Diego helped to ignite the conversion of the people of Mexico. Sometimes, all God asks for is our simple “yes” to the inspirations He gives us; whether that is a call to go on a pilgrimage, to begin a new ministry, or to perform a simple act of charity for our neighbor, we must begin by opening our hearts.

This Advent season, and in a special way on this feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, let us take time to reflect on the motherhood of Our Lady. We do not need to be afraid of how we are to live out God’s will in our lives. Just as she gave her “fiat” to what God asked of her, so too will Our Lady of Guadalupe assist us in giving our “yes” to God’s call.
