Blessed Cardinal Newman
It has been a long road for the Blessed Cardinal Newman, as the cause for his Sainthood was opened in 1958, and he was declared Venerable by Pope St. John Paul II in 1991, after his life of “heroic virtue” was recognized. From there, Pope Benedict XVI beatified him in 2010, leading us to the final stages, which include: Cardinals to Vote and then for the Holy Father to confirm a Date.

October 11 - Friday - Arrive Rome

Welcome to Rome, also known as, "The Eternal City." Upon arrival at Rome airport, collect your luggage in the baggage claim area, and continue to the arrival's hall, where you will be greeted by a tour escort and/or driver. You will make your way to the bus and transfer to your hotel. Following check-in, you will have free time to unpack and relax, and explore Rome on your own. Your tour escort may suggest places to visit. Later in the afternoon, your group will meet in the hotel lobby for a "Meet and Greet" with your fellow pilgrims and depart for Mass. Following Mass, you will attend a welcome dinner. Before or after dinner, you will have the opportunity to walk to St. Peter's Square as a group, for the Rosary (optional).

Day3
October 12 - Saturday - Rome

After a nice breakfast at your hotel, your first sightseeing day in Rome starts! You will have a choice of two itineraries to choose from:

Option # 1) The Christian Rome Tour: Basilica of St. John the Lateran, the Holy Stairs, and Basilica of St. Mary Major, St. Paul Outside the Walls If you have been to Rome, in the past chances are that you may want to skip this tour and opt for the 2nd option (below) or enjoy the major basilicas in Rome, the home to the relics of Peter and Paul, the Basilica of St. John the Lateran. This Basilica is where Pope Francis was installed as Bishop of Rome, and where he officiates as the Bishop of Rome. Across the street are the Holy Stairs. Tradition states that this staircase is from Pontius Pilate's palace of Jerusalem during the time of Jesus, brought to Rome by St. Helen in the 4th century. The stairs might be under the repair and if so, replicate of Stairs is provided and you will be able to receive the same graces and indulgences by going up the alternative stairs. this of course in memory of Christ's agonizing Passion. Our visit today will include St. Paul Outside the Walls, the Catacombs and the Basilica of St. Mary Major.

OR

Option # 2) Castelli Region: We will drive outside of Rome to enjoy towns in the Castelli Region, outside of Rome: most famous Castel Gandolfo (the summer residence of the Pope), Frascati (known for its famous wine), and Nemi (an enchanting town with small shops and cafes). We will have a celebratory lunch at La Gardenia, overlooking Lake Albano outside of Castel Gandolfo. We will return to Rome in time for leisure and shopping.

Return to Rome in time for dinner (on your own) and a restful nights sleep at your Hotel.

Day4
October 13 - Sunday - Rome: St. Peters Square Canonization Ceremony of Blessed Cardinal Newman

It is with great joy and anticipation that we head over to Saint Peter's Square this morning for the Canonization of Blessed Cardinal Newman. You will be transferred to Vatican City to attend Holy Mass and the Canonization Ceremony celebrated by his Holiness Pope Francis. According to hotel location, transfer may not be required. Your tour escort will oversee and guide all arrangements. Afternoon is free for exploration, personal prayers and reflections. Dinner and overnight in Rome.

Day5
October 14 - Monday - St. Peter's Square - Vatican Museum

Today you'll visit the largest Christendom Church, St. Peter's Basilica, built on the site where St. Peter, the first Pope and Bishop of Rome, was martyred. Our Holy Father, Pope Francis was the first Pontiff to visit the necropolis since extensive archaeological excavations were conducted at the ancient site decades ago view Michelangelo's Pieta. One of the major stops we want to pay close attention to will be the Tomb of Saint John Paul II and the Virgin Mary holding Christ after His crucifixion, death, and removal off the cross before being placed in the tomb. Continue to proceed to the Vatican Museums. At the world-renowned museum, you will see the most impressive of edifices, galleries, and awe-inspiring relics. Additionally, you will observe the Tapestry Gallery, Raphael Rooms, Sistine Chapel, and Michelangelo's Masterpiece, the restored mural of the Last Judgment. Farewell dinner and overnight in Rome.

Day6
October 15 - Tuesday - Return Home

After an early breakfast and heartfelt farewells, your group will leave by motor coach and transfer to the Rome Fiumicino airport for return flights home.
