How to
Prepare for WYD 2011
-
Prayer,
prayer, prayer! When we head to World Youth Day,
we're ultimately seeking to encounter our God who loves us,
in all sorts of ways. However, we don't have to wait until
World Youth Day to encounter God...we simply need to turn to
Him in prayer and find He's there for us. Find some way of
making prayer a regular part of your daily life - maybe it's
just pausing for a few moments each morning and night to
thank God, or getting to Mass during the week sometime,
joining with friends in prayer or reading the daily readings
and reflections on Connect.
-
Connect with others.
Chances are,
you're not going to make this pilgrimage alone...get in
touch with others who are also keen to go. Find ways of
supporting each other, in prayer, fellowship, and
encouragement. We all need community to get there!
-
Open a bank account. Starting to save
just a little bit each week from now will make a
huge difference getting to World Youth Day 2011. Maybe it
means an extra lawn-mowing round or babysitting job each
week. $20 a week from now until World Youth Day 2011 will
give you $3000...that's probably half, right there, of what
you'll need to get to Madrid WYD!
Other
stuff to check out...
-
Learning Spanish. Why not try your hand
at a bit of español? Although a lot of things will be
translated into English (just like they were translated into
other languages in Sydney)...a little knowledge of Spanish
will go a long way! Check out the night classes at your
local high schools, or if you're at university, maybe you
can take a paper in Spanish? Here's a tip...World Youth Day
in Spanish is 'La Jornada Mundial de Juventud' (pronounced
la hor-naa-dad mon-dee-al de hoo-ven-tood)
When taking
post or pre optional trip to Madrid following options
are available:
MADRID -
$39 per person. Madrid, morning or
afternoon tour with sights: the Gran Via Plaza de España, the Viaduct,
Plaza Major, the Bull Ring, Independence and Cibeles Squares, the

the famous Prado Museum.
AVILA with lunch - $115
per person. We begin our day with a drive to Avila, walled
city, the birthplace of St. Teresa of Jesus, the Church's greatest and
most influential mystic. Bisit the Cathedral and the Convent of the
Incarnation (Mass), where St. Teresa lived for three decades and St.
John of the Cross, her spiritual director and confessor lived for the
last two years of her life. Lunch included in Avila.
TOLEDO - $68.
Toledo is where St. John of the Cross spent much of his life and the
Middle Age Christian, Jewish and Moorish cultures co - existed for many
years. See this spectacular imperial city, residence Alcazar, the 13th
century Synagogue and the Gothic Cathedral (Mass)
