 Truly an extraordinary event is taking place in 2010. Pope Benedict XVI has announced that the Shroud of Turin will be on display in Turin, Italy. Housed at the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, The Shroud of Turin is a linen cloth bearing the image of Jesus. It is believed by many to be the cloth placed on Jesus of Nazareth at the time of his burial. the Shroud has rarely been displayed publicly more than one or two times each century.

The image on the shroud was first observed on the evening of May 28, 1898 on a negative of a photograph. An amateur photographer who was allowed to photograph it while it was being exhibited in the Turin Cathedral almost dropped and broke the photographic plate from the shock of seeing an image of a person on it. The image of the person appears to be consistent with that of crucifixion.
